Let me start by saying that there is nothing wrong with a strapless gown (I mean, my own dress was strapless!), but if you’re considering non-strapless wedding dresses, I think that’s where the style options really open up! Come along as we revisit some of the standout non-strapless wedding dresses that I’ve photographed over the years:

Thin Straps

If you like the look of a bare decolletage, but worry that a strapless gown might leave you with the annoying problem of having to pull up your dress all day, a wedding dress with straps could be a good compromise. They don’t necessarily need to be spaghetti straps either—check out the floral straps of some amazing Galia Lahav dresses in Intimate Wedding in Los Angeles and Hotel Bel Air Wedding

Illusion Neckline

Illusion neckline dresses usually have a design overlaid on a see-through fabric, giving the impression that the embroidery or beading is just sitting on the skin. Designers can really get creative with this technique and you can don a dress that is truly one of a kind! Alyssa’s dress at her Sunstone Winery Wedding is one beautiful example of this style—I love how the flowers look like they’re trailing up her back.

Sleeves

Sleeves are unquestionably classic and work well in more formal settings. I was blown away by Sue Jean’s gorgeous convertible Monique Lhuillier gown! The laced sleeves were so classic and perfectly matched the formal garden ceremony. Come evening though, she was able to remove the sleeves and turn it into a sexy strapless gown. Another favorite is the Vera Wang gown that Caroline wore at her French Themed Wedding at Calamigos Ranch. I adored the unexpected oversized bow in the back, which added a bit of whimsy to an otherwise traditional look!

As you can see, non-strapless wedding gowns are anything but boring and open up a world of options when it comes to wedding dress styles!
